Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Derian House is a hospice for terminally ill children and whilst it receives a lot of support from the local community, it only receives 10% of its funding from public money. In order to ensure that children with only a short time left to live and their families have the best support they can get, private fund raising contributions are essential for this extremely worthy cause.
So what will I be doing? Not being able to swim much more than two lengths of the pool, and having a knee that creeks when I go up stairs, the obvious choice was to sandwich a 40km bike ride in between a 1500m swim and 10km run. I have been gradually improving my swimming and running and hope to complete the London Triathlon on 2 August 2009.
All donations will be very much appreciated, and thank you very much for you support!
I did it! In a time of 2hrs 41mins 52secs I completed the 2009 London Triathlon. When I jumped into the Royal Victoria Dock and swam over to the start, it was comforting to speak with other competitors who were also wondering what on earth they were doing there. The start of the swim was like the bottom dance floor in Raiders circa 1988 except under water, arms and legs everywhere. After the swim, and the welcoming feel of dry land, I started on the bike which went well, but I didn't leave much in the legs for the run and the fininshing line was a welcome sight.
Many thanks for your enormously kind donations, which have kicked started Harrison Drury's year of fundraising for Derian House. You can be assured that your money will be put to very good use.
