The Scottish Recorder Orchestra is 10 years old this year and to celebrate, we want to buy a deep, sonorous Sub-contra-bass to add depth to our sound. Check out its sound in a piece being played by our friends, the Dortmund recorder consort, here. It is the instrument on the far right - particularly good at 4m30s and 7m30s. It costs just over £4,000. The SRO has around 60 members and who promote recorder music in Scotland through concerts of ancient and modern music.
To raise funds for this mammoth instrument I am going to take part in a mammoth challenge, the City to Summit Triathlon. On Saturday 1st June 2013 I will attempt to swim 2.4 miles in the River Forth, Edinburgh, cycle 112 miles to Glencoe, then run a marathon of 26.2 miles via the summit of Ben Nevis (Scotland's highest mountain) - all in one day!
