Story
Hi all! I have been so lucky this year to have been selected to take part in the London Marathon in aid of Healthy Minds the University of Bristol's mental health charity. I had a fantastic three years studying at Bristol and know for so many it holds nothing but happy memories. As many Bristol alumni know though, for some this is not the case.
University can be a lonely place, far away from home for the first time so many students need that extra support, keeping their minds as well as bodies healthy. This is where healthy minds comes in...
Healthy Minds aims to improve the wellbeing of Bristol students affected by mental ill health through a supported programme of physical activity. The NHS recognises that physical activity is linked to positive mental wellbeing and can help people combat depression and anxiety.Students receive tailored support that includes a mentor-guided activity programme, access to sporting opportunities and facilities, and dedicated support from a range of contact points. In addition to individual and tailored support, students can attend training sessions with others on the programme to combat feelings of isolation and foster a sense of community.Students gain a healthy routine, improved confidence, a sense of community and a supportive network. Upon completion of the programme, 90% of participants score within or higher than the national average mental health score.Every pound raised will help to improve the quality and quantity of support offered, helping even more students.
