Story
In 2015 I retired from a 6 year spell in the Irish American Football League, where I played for the Carrickfergus Knights and was training with the newly formed Irish National Team. Through a combination of circumstances, the time was right to step away.
I don't cope too well with downtime, so it wasn't long before I was seeking out the next challenge. A passionate love for the Belfast Giants ice hockey team collided with some exceptionally persuasive friends, and in January 2016 I found myself with 6 months to learn one of the most skillful sports on earth from scratch in order to take part in a hugely successful fan tournament- the UK Forums All Stars.
I'm risking further injury to an already sketchy body and practically guaranteeing public humiliation for an incredibly worthy cause. Dreams Come True is a UK charity that grants the wishes and dreams of children and young adults with serious and life-limiting conditions. Little guys and girls who are braver than I'll ever be.
In the social media age there is an ocean of worthwhile causes which deserve your support, so I'm grateful to you for even being here. Every single penny I raise along with my team will go straight to the charity and will provide hope, courage and a little bit of joy to a small person who so sorely deserves it.
I'll be reporting on my progress, bruises and broken teeth on Facebook and Twitter (@joelneill) between now and July. If nothing else, I can absolutely guarantee you good value for your hard earned money!
Thank you.
