Football to Amsterdam 2017 - 145 miles of cycling over two days starting at Barnsley FC, Yorkshire
This cycle race has become an important annual event to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK through the help of football clubs. For Joe, this means a lot of hard work as he has not been on a cycle for over 15 years so the next seven months training will be crucial. Mark too, though a regular cyclist round the streets of London, will need to build up his stamina. So why this event and why now?
Joe's father and Mark's father-in-law, Paul has been suffering from incurable advanced prostate cancer for nearly five years. Joe and Paul have been season ticket holders at Barnsley FC for 26 years. Given an initial prognosis of just two years survival Paul has defied the odds so far partly because of the new treatments now available for this cancer as a result of recent research. Research takes funding and therefore both as a personal goal and to help the large numbers who suffer every year Joe and Mark are undertaking this bike ride now. They have set an ambitious goal which goes beyond the minimum of £2000 they have to raise to compete. Please help them on their way in whatever way you can. Any donation you can make will be much appreciated.
Regular updates on their progress will be posted here.
