Story
I'm planning to run three London marathons in three days in April - the third one will be the official 2014 London Marathon
April 11th - Greenwich to Westminster (7am start)
April 12th - Westminster to Greenwich (9.30am start)
April 13th - Greenwich to Westminster (10am start)
Why? I'm running to raise money for Diabetes UK to support the work they do helping people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, research and campaigning work.
In March 2009 I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after being taken to hospital following a flight to Heathrow. Support from Diabetes UK was invaluable in getting used to daily routine of insulin injections and blood sugar tests.
Running with type 1 just means monitoring blood sugar levels and always taking some energy gels on long runs. Hypos (very low blood sugar levels isn't pleasant especially while running)
Last year I ran two marathons in two days which was challenging but well worth the effort.
This year I'm running three marathons in three days to try and raise £3000 for Diabetes UK. Why? Because its a new challenge, it costs nothing and is a great way of seeing London
I'll be tweeting about my training in the run up to April 11th 2014 and the three marathons from @joederrett using #3marathons3days
If you fancy running with me on 11th or 12th I'd be glad of the company!
