Story
As a family of a loved one who has suffered with the cruel disease that is Alzheimer’s, we have endured the pain of perpetual grief, the raw wound of continual loss, the struggle to preserve dignity and the desire to respect the present and cling on to the past. However, in the midst of all the heartache, we’ll hold on to the small glimmer of light that exists, and reminds ourselves of the things that Alzheimers hasn’t taken away.... The warmth of a touch, the importance of smiles, laughter, and the knowledge of what it truly means to experience unconditional love and acceptance something our Dad taught us all. Therefore, as physical presents for our Dad might mean less these days I have decided next August in 2021, as a 70th birthday present , I will cycle from my dads old house which stood in the Gorbals of Glasgow, back to Bognor Regis. This is a very personal thing as my Dad did actually hitchhike this route at my age to start a new life!
I understand there have been other, perhaps ‘bigger’ issues in the world this year but In an attempt to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society any contributions are hugely appreciated. As always it’s good to have a good support team behind you so I have recruited some trustee friends in Andy Coyle, Andre Didon and Brandon Smith, with possibly more to come.
For today, I ask anyone who knew my dad to raise a pint for an absolute legend and remember the good times. And if you can spare a few pounds please it would mean the world 💙
