Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I completed the Manchester to Blackpool 60 mile bike ride last year with a team of 23 riders in between chemo 4 and 5 (!) as I was having treatment for secondary breast cancer. I'm currently in remission and have decided to do it again for my hospital The Christie and my Oncologist Dr Greg Wilson.
I will be doing the ride with these hugely supportive amazing people:-
Jeff (my husband) Alan (Jeff's friend) and friend Jo (who I also run with)
(Unfortunately my niece Faye can no longer do the race)
I have treatment every 3 weeks for secondary breast cancer and scans every 3 months. This will continue for life. Secondary breast cancer is incurable but treatable. I am lucky that I have access to some great drugs that hopefully will keep me in a good remission for the near future.
In the UK alone 1000 people die EVERY MONTH of secondary breast cancer. 12000 lives lost every year leaving devastated families. Worldwide the figure is 1430 people die EVERY DAY from secondary breast cancer. This is tragic... Something must be done.
With the opening of the new Manchester Cancer Reasearch Centre it is hoped that they will create new more effective drugs and even look for a cure. Lets hope so but in the meantime support this hugely worthwhile cause for all the cancer patients that have access to this wonderful facility.
I will be doing the ride not just for The Christie but for all the amazing breast cancer ladies and men I have met through various social media. Many are like me with secondary breast cancer and many have also died like my friends Debbie and Isy so it will also be in memory of them too.
