Just this April my mother received the devastating news that she had come up against a cancer diagnosis.
My mum was diagnosed with stage III Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This came as a huge shock as we had no family history of cancers and she had been feeling physically well. My mum's treatment began at the beginning of May, and has been stressful and very draining, but my mum has still managed to keep active and in good spirits. I am immensely proud of her bravery.
One of the first issues that doctors and nurses raised with my mum was the probability of her losing her hair. The thought of this was devastating to my mum.
So, I will be shaving my head in solidarity with my mum as she powers through her cancer battle. My dad is also bald but this is due to general male pattern baldness so he's been prepared for this for years!
The money raised from this sponsored head shave will be donated to the Beatson Cancer Charity - its Gartnavel campus (BWoSCC) provides cancer treatment to around 2.8 million people in the West of Scotland, my mum being one of them, and it would be so amazing to give something back.
In addition to this, my hair (which is about 18" in length) will be harvested and donated to the Little Princess Trust, a children's charity which turns hair donations into high-quality hair replacements for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.
I am also offering artwork in return for more generous donations (£45 - £100). I am looking to sell off as much of my artwork as possible in order to boost (perhaps exceed) the amount which I am aiming to raise. I am also available for personal commissions.
So if you would like to make a donation in return for some artwork, please contact me via Facebook at J M Illustrations.(Link: https://www.facebook.com/J-M-Illustrations-286708121430738/)
I am so grateful to everyone who has offered to help, anything you can spare to sponsor me would be so wonderfully appreciated. Thank you.
