Story
I’ve dabbled on and off for ten years running 5km here and there but finally, I found I needed to do something regularly to de-stress from work, the kids and the onslaught of Lockdowns. The more I’ve run the better I’ve felt.
So fast forward to Henry’s virtual Scout session in Lockdown 3 and they had an amazing talk from The Breck Foundation. Listening to the story, really hit home for me. We want to do all we can to protect our kids from the online jungle but where do we start? The Breck Foundation explained to the kids (and me) what dangers they need to look out for when online. It was an easy choice for me to pick them as my charity for the London Landmarks Half Marathon! I’m excited to be back in London after 18 months of home working and running in the City that I love. And, I’ve got a buddy that I’ve convinced to run with me, Robbie!
The Breck Foundation’s mission is to educate young people how to keep safe when using the internet. Through education and awareness we teach young people that their relationships online are not like real life friendships, that they should not disclose personal information and never arrange to meet with someone who has befriended them online alone and in a private place. We do this by sharing the real life story of Breck Bednar, a 14 year old boy from Caterham who was tragically groomed online and lured to his death in February 2014.
