To kick start the fundraising campaign for the newly refurbished Town Hall and the world class Symphony Hall Birmingham, Joanna Tong, Director of Development and Marketing, will “walk the talk” completing a challenging ten-day expedition along the Inca Trail, Peru. She will trek to an altitude of 4,460m/14,600ft (over half the height of Mt Everest) in order to raise funds for Performances Birmingham the charitable trust that manages the two venues.  

  

There will be 7 hours of trekking each day with an increase in altitude of 290m/1,000ft daily to an eventual altitude of 4,300m/ 14,100ft on day 5.  The Altitude will have an impact on Joanna’s body and brain e.g. headaches, nausea, breathing difficulties, mental confusion and other acute symptoms.  

  

Performances Birmingham has the management skills and arts expertise to expand its innovative and life changing work still further and reach even more people. The organisation has found that there is a clear market demand for the diverse programme of arts and education events in the city it provides, but cannot unleash its full potential without finding new sources of voluntary income.       

 

Ticket sales alone do not support the important work of Town Hall and Symphony Hall in the areas of arts & culture – artistic programming to attract new audiences and retain international status; technology – having the best to ensure professionalism and diversity as well as maintaining two of Birmingham’s most prestigious venues; and education – working with children and young people from all backgrounds to bring music to their lives.
