Story
We met John when he was a 12 years old student at Katitima
Primary School in Malawi. He rather cheekily introduced himself as the most intelligent boy in the school! Even though he passed his exams, he would have had little chance of going to secondary school without the help of the Starfish Malawi Charity.
Orphaned as a young child, John was cared for by his grandmother. John had to wake early each morning to do chores then walk a long distance to school, with little food to sustain him throughout the day. Attending secondary school was not easy either- but John did not give up. His ambition was to go to university. Despite many setbacks, he kept going until he achieved the necessary grades.
In 2018, John received the wonderful news that he had been offered a place at the Malawi College of Accountancy to do a business degree. He has done well and has and been an inspiration to his community back home. Many thanks to family and friends who have already donated in the past to help us support him during his first three years.
John is soon to begin his final year so I'm afraid we need to raise money for his school fees and accommodation costs once again. Please donate a little if you can. It will be so sad if he can't complete his degree.
John is just one of thousands of young people in Malawi who are desperate to study, but do not have the opportunity. Please help by sponsoring us on this year’s Starfish Malawi 13 mile walk around Bewl Water on Saturday 19th June or - even better - join us on the walk if you would like to!
