THE BIG COMMUTE - YACHT RACE AROUND THE TOP OF SCOTLAND FROM LEITH TO THE CLYDE
Hi folks and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
If you are on here, you probably know me already but if not my name is Joanna and I live in the west coast of Scotland in a small village called Lochcarron.
Since moving here two and a half years ago I joined our local sailing club and have become hooked on the sea and sailing. I do have a habit of being in the water more often than not when out on club nights however I have been out once or twice on Mhojo a local yacht and to date I have not fallen in!
Anyway after a little encouragement I took the plunge and called the OYT and am now looking forward to 20 August 2010 where I will be part of a crew racing one of the OYT's yachts from Edinburgh to Lerwick and then back to Glasgow to raise funds for the Ocean Youth Trust. This voyage will mean alot to me as my first sailing experience was in Shetland where I previously lived for just under five years.
The money I am raising will go partly towards the cost of my adventure and secondly and more importantly it will help fund youngsters to get out and sail with the OYT so the more I raise the more that will go to help the youngsters. I also hope to voluteer with the trust if I survive the race!
Have a look at the link below for more information and I will update here as I go along with the fundraisers I will be holding.

Just a wee update, I have been away for a sail training weekend out of Greenock with the OYT. I had an amazing weekend and am looking forward even more so now to August. My arms are like lead weights with all the hard work but hopefully with lots of training between now and then I will be a mean lean racing machine!
Fundraiser in Lochcarron Village Hall 21 May 2010 from 2000hrs till late. Local artists will be appearing aswell as my nephew Malcolm Cumming who is often seen rocking Johnny Foxes of an evening :) Come along and have a great night with live music and stovies.
Fundraiser went well folks raised a total of 1302.75 on the night which was just fantastic. Keeping going though so keep donating, the more I raise the more the OYT will benefit.
Hoping to have a quiz night or something similar in Applecross in the near future. Keep an eye on here for more info :)
