Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
You probably remember last year's Henley Swim. Well I managaed to shave a whole minute off my previous time......(I know; not very impressive). This year I am again swimming but this time with Rory my 17 year old son (the race is on) and we are raising money for Combat Stress which is the official charity of this year's Henley Swim.
Combat Stress is a charity for War Veterans who return to the UK with invisible injuries. They have not been injured physically but they carry their wounds around with them unseen. They may manage very well for years but eventually the cracks begin to appear. Post traumatic Stress Disorder can take an average of 14 years to affect the person. When it hits it is incredibly debilitating and very hard for people to understand. "Pull yourself together" is the usual reaction from those who have no idea how the person is suffering. What does Combat Stress do ? Their primary aim is to provide care and support to Veterans with psychological injuries. They offer residential treatment at their short-stay centres (usually 2 weeks) and long-term care through Community Outreach teams.
I hope you will consider a small donation to Combat Stress and encourage me to make my third swim up the Thames. Who knows I might even make another film........underwater perhaps this time !
