Story
Ok, so I bought myself a sewing machine. And now I want to make loads of stuff. But what to make? I came across this charity and a way that my new found enthusiasm for sewing might be able to help.
This year, CHICKS aims to provide 1,200 respite breaks for underprivileged children. Just before the children head back home they receive a drawstring bag full of things they feel will help the children remember what a fantastic time they have had, special keepsakes, some of which they can keep as an everlasting memory. For example, photographs of them on camp, maybe them on a horse or a kayak. A photo of the camp group so that they can look back and remember the new faces they met. Other small items, a pocket kite, etc are also placed in the bag. The drawstring bags are our ‘MEMORY BAGS’ and CHICKS thought what would be nice is if each bag was hand made especially for the children.
So that's what I'm doing - making a memory bag. I also need some kindly people to sponsor my bag. This sponsorship money will help cover the cost of the keepsakes which go into the bags. You don't have to give a lot - if a few you of you give £1 each it all adds up. And if I get loads of sponsorship, I might have to make more bags! Think of this, a child has a fantastic time at CHICKS, full of laughter and fun and at the end of their stay, they take away with them MY bag, filled with YOUR keepsakes, a special bag unique only to them.
And if this has got your sewing juices flowing and you would like to take part and receive a Make a Memory Bag Fundraising Pack then please either email jo@chicks.org.uk or telephone her on 01822 811125.
Thanks for your support! I will update with a pic when I have made the bag!
