London Marathon 2019

London Marathon 2019 · 20 April 2019
Have you ever had a dream of something you've always wanted to do but it's always been just outside your reach? Well that's how I felt about running the London Marathon. It's been right up there at the top of my bucket list followed by reaching the top of the Empire State Building and climbing the steps in Philadelphia made famous in the Rocky films.
After yet another ballot failure it was time to bite the bullet and apply for a charity place knowing I would need to raise some serious money. 19 is my favourite number so if I didn't run it in 2019 then it probably wouldn't ever happen (its a sign, right?)
Choosing a charity was easy. As many of you who know me, know that my hearing has been in decline for many years which really changed all aspects of my life. I came across Hearing Dogs for the Deaf soon after I got Bella as a puppy. They basically (I've pinched this from their website) train clever dogs to help deaf people They train the dogs to alert deaf people to sounds they would otherwise miss – simple sounds that many people take for granted like the doorbell, alarm clock and even danger signals like the fire alarm. Being aware of these sounds, thanks to a hearing dog, makes a real difference to deaf people’s lives. Being deaf, or hard of hearing, can be very isolating. Having a Hearing Dog can also provide independence and companionship.
Over the next few months I plan to visit Hearing Dogs HQ and find out, in more detail, about what they do and what's involved with training up a hearing dog. I will update you all as to what I find out. Not only is this about raising money for the charity, but its about raising awareness. We might all get to learn a thing or two along the way (plus they'll be cute puppies involved!!)
So now is your chance to help me, help them (whilst making a very excited woman, very happy!!) by helping me raise at least £1,500.
Thank you so much for reading and donating. Its all very much appreciated, I couldn't do it without all your help. Jo xxx
