Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 8th December 1961 two amazing men were born. One was my brother Steve and the other was my son's headteacher Ben Whelan.
Steve led an inspiring and active life. He represented England at swimming and pioneered research for DuPont in Canada and Belgium. He was respected and loved by family, friends and work colleagues. But Steve was born in Norfolk during the Cold War when chemical warfare testing was taking place. Incidences of lung cancer for the population of this area/time was disproportionately high and my brother was part of these dreadful statistics. Steve fought the disease with determination and dignity, however, he lost his fight on 30th November 2006 at the age of 44. I'm doing this for you Steve. xxx
Ben Whelan was the most amazing headteacher that we could possibly have hoped for, for our son Daniel. He knew every child's name and potential and was the reason that many families chose the school (Grange Farm, Coventry). Daniel remembers Ben joining in with a game of football during playtime. Ben also battled cancer and seemed to be winning, hoping to return to work early this year. But cancer is cruel and Ben lost his battle on 14th March 2015 at the age of 53. We all miss you so much.
