Story
Hi everyone. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
I am Jo, administration manager at MHA Westbury Grange Care home in newport pagnell and have worked here for 26 years.
2020 is a year we will never forget but sadly not for good reasons.
Covid 19 hit us very hard and very early on back in march and for the last 9 months it has been a tough time with no end in sight.
Westbury cares for 45 residents. Nursing, end of life, palliative and those living with dementia.
Sadly for us we lost 14 residents to covid and had over 50% of our workforce absent.
How we carried on and how we coped and dealt with the grief is beyond words but nothing will take away the love and care we have within westbury and the amazing residents and dedicated staff.
In normal times our care home is buzzing with a constant flow of visitors, entertainment, events and just a happy, caring and family environment.
Due to covid we have been unable to hold any events this year whereby we raise money for our amenity fund. This pays for entertainment, goodies, trips, celebrations and events to enable our residents to live a happy and active life.
Mha is a registered charity and has been hit hard by covid. As a company they really have looked after their staff with ample PPE and not allowing admissions from hospitals whereby it could have caused further transmission of this awful virus.
Sadly this has had a massive financial impact on the company as a whole and will take years to recover from.
As the national charity that enables people to live later life well it is clear to us that the ongoing isolation and restrictions, however necessary, is having a significant impact upon physical and mental wellbeing.
With limited contact from loved ones, many of our residents are frightened, confused and lonely.
We have no idea how long it will take to resume normality or if indeed it will ever exist in the same way again.
I would like to appeal to everyones kind nature however small the donation may be.
You can help us reconnect our residents with their families in a safe way.
We are looking to purchase a
touchscreen interactive android table specially designed for care homes. They are portable and life size, allowing them to be easily moved from room to room. Over 50 Android apps are pre-installed and they provide a mixture of fun, learning, music, film, nostalgia, sensory and digital board games.
The added benefit is they can be used to communciate, with loved ones during restricted visits via whats app, zoom facetime etc - lifesize visual communication for our residents to keep in touch,,see and talk to their loved ones through technology.
Please help our campaign, however little the donation, it will all be so gratefully received.
Help us get through covid and reconnect our residents with their loved ones
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Please view the table on the following link, it truly will change our residents lives.
