Story
Hi! I decided a few weeks ago I would run the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 6th April 2014 for my work, the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA).
EIA investigators work all over the world, often undercover and in challenging and dangerous circumstances, to obtain hard evidence of environmental crime and abuse of the natural world. Their commited team of campaigners and volunteers work around the clock to ensure that perpetrators of these crimes are brought to justice, in addition to engaging in training and information-sharing activities with authorities to create meaningful change.
To date, EIA has played a pivotal role in securing the worldide ban on the trade in ivory in 1989, uncovering the largest rhino horn poaching operation in the world, reducing the demand for whale and dolphin meat in Japan and contributing to the closure of illegal mines in India that were detroying tiget habitat. Nevertheless, EIA is reliant on funding to ensure the upkeep of such operations and the assurance of a better environment for all; the recent surge in trade of illegal ivory within Asian blackmarkets is but one example of this.
If you feel you are able to make a small donation towards the following, you will be making a big difference to helping to ensure a future where humanity respects, protects and celebrates the natural world for the benefit of all. Just a few pounds could go a long way in helping to cease production of climate changing chemicals, prevent the extinction of wild elephants and tigers, or put a stop to widespread illegal deforestation in South East Asia.
I hearby pledge the following costumes for funds raised*:
£400- dress as a tiger
£450- dress as an elephant
£500- dress as a cetacean (that's a whale, dolphin or porpoise- gradually losing aerodynamics, people!)
£550- dress as tree
£600- dress as an HFC-23 'climate bomb' (come on people!)
Wish me luck, and thanks for reading!
Jill :)
