Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello.  My name is Jessika and I am 11 years old.  I have been interested in primates for a long time.  I have often been to wildlife parks to visit them and to learn about them.  However, it's only as i've got older that I have learnt about the terrible suffering that some of these beautiful animals have had to go through due to humans.

For instance, many of the chimpanzees that are rescued by Monkey World, a primate rescue and rehabilitation park in Dorset (the only one of it's kind in the world) were torn from their mothers as babies and their mothers and remaining family will have been slaughtered for meat. The babies are then sent around the world as a money making business in pet trades.  These primates are becoming endangered yet this cruelty goes on.

Jim Cronin, the founder of Monkey World, spent most of his life educating and campaigning to stop this from happening by trying to get governments of countries to ban the pet trade and make it illegal to 'own' these beautiful animals.  Jim Cronin successfully did this in Spain and Turkey and his work goes on through the Jim Cronin memorial fund.

These beautiful animals share alot of our own DNA and they have many behaviours and social skills seen in humans.  Yet we treat them with little regard.

I know that I am not raising money for a charity that fights illness or disease, or a charity that supports people.  But we are not the only species on this beautiful planet of ours.  We are here and so are they, and we share this planet, yet we treat them in such a manner that we can do what we like.  But that's not true.

To be a good person and to grow up to be a good person I feel that I have to speak out for those that can't.

Please take the time to support me.  Even if it's only worth 10p to you, please sponsor me.  Every single penny really really does matter.

Thank you so so so much,

Jessika xxxxx (AKA monkeygirl).xxx
