Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
The last time we raced at Peterborough in June 2011, it was 5 days before Mum died and we came 2nd. We called her up and her response was very clear and concise...."1st would have been better darling". On Sunday 15th August, we raced again and came 1st achieving our season goal but I couldn't ring and let her know and it just broke my heart ......
Mum followed my rowing career (if you could call it that) since I started at Durham, when she used to come up from London to watch me for hours in the pouring rain. She continued as my most avid supporter until she passed away peacefully this year on 9th June 2011 after battling so bravely with cancer.
Kate, Crystal, Angela, Karen and Naomi, all close friends and part of my Leeds Rowing Club crew and have been a fantastic support to me throughout the last 3 years. They have all now gone one step further!
They have all agreed to race the Boston Marathon - a 31 mile rowing race from Lincoln to Boston - in aid of Cancer Research. The race was due to take place last September but was cancelled the night before due to river conditions and we were devastated.
Great news as itt's been re-arranged for the 1st April 2012 and we can't wait! Last year's winning time in our category was 4 hours 49 minutes so we have that to try and beat!
Cancer has affected all our lives in one way or the other - Kate sadly lost her father, Geoff, to prostate cancer in 2006 so raising money for Cancer Research brings back the memory of the disease back vividly for her.
Every day we all hear of people newly diagnosed or in remission and we are all just so keen to raise as much money as we can for a charity that makes such a difference to our lives.
We hope you can spare some pennies to donate to our cause and we'll let you know how we get on!
