Story
No long explanations but I lost my mum to early onset Alzheimer's when I was 18 years old. She was 58 and had battled with the disease for 10 years.
To this day I find it incredibly difficult to talk about but I always thought that one day I would really like to help people going through similar experiences. I'm still not ready to do this as I would find it too difficult to re-live the memories.
So I thought I would challenge myself to MAKE MEMORIES and support the incredible work the Alzheimer's Society do for those affected by the disease and those around them.
On March 31st 2018 I will be driving a sled of dogs 260kms from northern Norway, through Sweden to Jukkasjarvi. No heating (and temperatures routinely around -26 degrees), no cleaning facilities, no toilets (apart from the nearest tree or rock), just me, a sled, my dogs and a tent...
It will take me 8 days;
Day 1 - arrive at the Norway Dog Sled Centre, meet my dogs, train and prepare for the first sled.
Day 2 - sled to camp 1 on the Tri-Nations boarder (30kms)
Day 3 - sled along the Swedish boarder, ascend 800 meters and sled down Keinovopio (55kms)
Day 4 - a day of challenging sledding deep in to the mountains- home of the Sami people - and make camp in Rostojavri (45kms)
Day 5 - we sled in to the Swedish forests testing our sled control! (55kms)
Day 6 - longest day of the challenges, on to frozen lakes and rivers to Jukkasjarvi (75kms)
Day 7 - transfer back to the Dog Sled Centre with the dogs and equipment and debrief.
Day 8 - say goodbye to the dogs and head home!
I am trying to raise £4000 for the Alzheimer's Society, if you would like to sponsor me you would be helping me to achieve something incredible - you would be helping people who are going through similar experiences to me.
I might not be able to support them but the money I raise will!
Thank you xxx
