London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·
Having never been ‘a runner’ I nervously went for my first 5K Parkrun in December ‘16 (in Tara's trainers & Ruaidhri's rugby top) and slowly - & rather painfully - got hooked by running. It took about 5 months and my first 10k last May to get 'I hate running' out of my head as I ran.
With my 50th looming this July in December I rather impulsively applied for a place in the London Marathon. I hadn't really thought about the fact that I hadn't entered even a 1/2 Marathon at this point.
A couple of half marathons and several longer runs later I think I'm there with the training & I think I've really enjoyed it despite the fact that this Winter has been a lot colder than I anticipated and I've discovered that I slowly turn blue and a bit Smurf like if I don't put gloves on - even in September.
I'd be really grateful for a virtual birthday card or drink sent as a donation to my chosen Charity. As rugby is a big part of my family's life, Dermot continues to be involved in rugby via Sale Sharks, Ruaidhri continues to play at Edinburgh University and my step-Grandson is making his first steps at Junior level, I have chosen the RFU Injured Players Foundation for the great work it does for catastrophically inured players and their families and research into the prevention of injuries - & after years on the side-lines I'm really proud to be part of a rugby team at last! http://www.rfuipf.org.uk/about
