Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Thursday 18th August at 12pm!!!! (Weather permitting)

For those unaware of our story, our (then) 5yo son Thomas was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  In short, he had been unwell for a day, but nothing alarming.  Or so we thought.  The second day, he collapsed, was incoherent and lethargic.  Mother's instinct meant I rushed him to the hospital, unsure of what to say to them as he had no temperature or "complaints".

Upon arrival, the fast acting team soon disgnosed he was diabetic and in DKA (a very severe complication if Type 1).  Had I not got him there when I did, our story would be very different.

Thomas has amazed us all with his bravery and courage, accepting his injections (up to 7 a day) and finger prick tests (between 13-24 a day).

However, Thomas has since been disgnosed with Brittle Type 1, meaning it is very hard to control.  And he also has no hypo or hyper awareness  meaning he is at risk of collapse, seizure, coma or worse at anytime.

CGM have unfortunately not worked for Thomas.

THANKFULLY, Hypo Hounds saw the seriousness of our situation and after passing their application process, allocated one of their amazing Diabetic Alert Dogs.  POPPY.

Poppy has saved Thomas life on more than one occasion, as well as allow us to avoid numerous other hospital admissions, through scent detection.  We would be lost without Poppy, and there is nothing I wouldn't do for this charity.

Due to the pandemic, the charity have been hit hard, and now, more than ever, need our help.

Please give what you can.  Thank you.
