Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.
Our Mum, Nan, Sister, Mother-in-law and Grandma, Sheila, lived with Parkinson's Disease for well over 20 years. In the face of this debilitating disease and the daily hurdles she faced, this inspirational woman displayed extraordinary bravery, humour, pragmatism and patience right up until she left us last year. We miss her, so much.
Sadly, Mum's sister Rosina also has Parkinson's Disease. Like her sister, she copes with her challenges with dignity and bravery. We were proud of mum, and we are proud of Rosina, too.
It would feel wrong to just sit back and accept what has happened to our family. We want to do something to help.
One person in every 500 has Parkinson's. That's about 127,000 people in the UK. Symptoms and how quickly they progress are different for everyone. Emerging evidence over the past 15 years has led researchers to believe that genetics plays a far greater role in Parkinson’s disease than was once thought. The ‘smoking gun’ that causes Parkinson’s Disease has not yet been identified and we need to find it…. Fast.
There's currently no cure, but drugs and treatments are available to manage many of the symptoms. Parkinson’s UK is a charity which is looking for that cure. Your donation will contribute to research and also help sufferers control their symptoms, and provide information, advocacy and support for their families and carers.
Go on... help us make a difference... you know you want to :)
