Story
I'm honored to join Hope for Justice and Lex Mundi in representing First Solar on the Patagonia Trek Extreme Challenge. The purpose of this trek is to raise awareness on the still-prevailing issue of modern slavery and to raise money to support victims on behalf of the Hope for Justice international charity.
Some astonishing facts concerning modern slavery are there are over 40 million victims including those trapped into forced labor by companies and individuals exploiting humans for greed and profit, and 1 in 4 victims are children!
There are many reasons why I'm doing this trek but most recently I saw how modern slavery impacted the industry that I work in. It was exposed that forced labor was being used in Xinjiang, China by a number of companies and plagued the photovoltaic solar supply chain industry. I believe that we all have a moral responsibility to make sure ethical practices are employed in the supply chain, and I'm proud to both work and represent First Solar, a responsible solar company, that is committed to furthering our planet, communities, and customers in an ethical and responsible manner.
All donations made are directly being sent to Hope for Justice to help victims of modern slavery. For more information about the cause, check out this short video: https://vimeo.com/658720587 and more stories, news and statistics can be found here: www.hopeforjustice.org/resources-and-statistics.
