Story
Thanks for reading this.
I guess we all think about homeless people around this time of year and this is the year I am doing something (very small) about it.
The Simon's Community is a small charity that works to support homeless people in London. It has a really special model of care that seeks to accept people for who they are rather than trying to change them. It creates 'homes' not hostels and residents are included in as much of the decision making as possible. The volunteers who work in them actively try to close the gap between the helper and the helped fostering greater independence, positive self image and a sense of belonging for individual.
The charity fills an important gap in it's attempt to provide support for those who are not provided for by other services and has helped many homeless people who had been rejected by or given up on by other services.
In short these are pretty special folk.
I am not a runner.
I promise to try my absolute best between now and March in training and I promise to run FAST.
Thanks in advance for any donation you might have to help me in my attempt to help a small charity doing BIG work.
