Story
My younger brother Richard, at the age of 55 years old received a devastating diagnosis of Motor neurone disease (MND) in May 2022. Richard has led a full and active life previously with a passion for Cardiff City football club and always enjoyed long walks with his dog Sophie. In a short space of time since his diagnosis he is now residing in a care home and is reliant on others with his care needs.
MND is a progressive, rare and incurable disease which has a devastating impact on the sufferers and their families.
There are clinical trials ongoing but unfortunately for Richard he may not benefit from these however as a legacy to future sufferers Richard would dearly like to raise as much money as possible to fund research into finding a cure for this life limiting illness.
Friends and family plan to raise funds by walking the 3 peaks in the Brecon Beacons on Sunday 21st May 2023.
Please support Richard’s effort by donating. All donations are greatly appreciated.
Anyone is welcome to join us for all or part of the walk.
Richard and his beloved dog Sophie will be supporting us along the way.
Update:
Our 3 peaks challenge has been successfully completed on Sunday 21 May 2023. The date is significant for my brother Richard as it was a year ago to the day that he was admitted to hospital with MND. It is also hos dog Sophie birthday she was 11 years old & was treated with a steak! The total group of 30 us all completed the 3 peaks challenge in the Brecon Beacons. After this we held an auction/raffle/quiz in the local rugby club & Richard was able to attend for an hour to say thank you to everyone for their fundraising effort. To date we have raised over £9k but we would still.like to reach our total.of £10k to fund MND research as a cure needs to be found for this cruel disease. So if you are able to contribute to this worthy cause however small it will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Jeff Hopkins.
