We support older people in Sunderland to ensure they love later life

Story

Mum sadly passed away just before Christmas on 23rd December.  She had been suffering the effects of alzheimer's disease combined with vascular dementia.

Before Mum became to unwell to attend, her and Dad used the Essence Centre in Sunderland, a service provided by Age UK Sunderland specifically for those with dementia and their carers. It provides help and support as those diagnosed and their loved ones come to terms with what the condition is and its prognosis. Mum and Dad attended various coffee mornings and workshops, with staff at the centre being crucial to Mum and Dad accessing wider support and services as Mum's illness progressed.

Mum's funeral takes place at Sunderland Crematorium at 2pm on Friday 8th January with numbers restricted to 30 because of the covid 19 pandemic. This means that many relatives and friends are unable to attend.

We are asking that no flowers are sent but that donations are made to Age UK Sunderland in support of the Essence Centre facilities at Doxford Park, Sunderland.
