London Marathon 2017 · 23 April 2017 ·

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Following a traumatic divorce five years ago, I rebuilt my life with the help of friends both old and new. A close friend introduced me to long distance running a few years ago. I do not enjoy it but it was instrumental in  giving me the strength to rebuild our lives. The London marathon is an amazing race and one that is a 'bucket list' item. I will be running for Refuge both to raise vital funds for this under funded charity. I also wish to raise awareness of domestic violence. The statistics below are frightening and affects everyone: male, female, young, old, rich, poor and all the children growing up in this environment.

Will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in there life time.

Least likely of all violent crimes to be reported

On average 2 women are murdered each week and 30 men a year.
