Story
Jean ('Oma') was passionate about fairness and devoted her career and her time to helping everyone equally, especially those most in need.
She trained as a Nurse at Westminster Hospital and was a midwife in South London and Aylesbury.
Later she was a Health Visitor in Aylesbury .She was instrumental in setting up the Family Planning Clinic in Aylesbury and on retirement worked tirelessly organising the local branch of the Crossroads for Carers charity using the experience of helping to look after her own mother. She also trained as a counsellor and worked at the Dove Centre.
She was an inspiring and much loved mother as well as a devoted support for her late husband, Aylesbury GP, Dr John Chappel. Together with Opa she also supported Aylesbury Ducklings Trust, Florence Nightingale Hospice and Cruse Bereavement Care.
Missed by her children, David, Ian and Helen; her daughters-in-law, Rachel and Jane; her 9 grandchildren; her many friends from Tennis, Golf, Bridge, WEA, U3A, Open University and History society; her travelling companions; and her Saturday night gang.
Oma passed away in Stoke Mandeville Hospital on Tuesday 17th December 2019, aged 87 years.
