Story
The Rotary Swimarathon is back for its 3rd event on 12 March 2022. What is the Swimarathon? Teams of 6 swim in relays for 55 minutes to complete as many lengths as possible. The teams will be split into several categories and the teams with the most lengths will receive a medal donated by a local business. The aim of the Swimarathon is to raise as much money as possible for the Rotary's charities. A group of clients and staff members at the Trust will be entering a team for the 2nd year to raise awareness about the vital work the Trust does, whilst allowing our clients the fundraise and give back to other local charities. The Purfleet Trust (registered charity number 1037276) is a local charity that supports those that are either experiencing homelessness or are vulnerably housed within the King’s Lynn & West Norfolk area. We acknowledge that homelessness is something that can happen to anyone and we are committed to developing opportunities to work with our clients to improve their life chances. We believe that everyone has the right to live in a decent, suitable and affordable home, and should have access to services that support and enable them to live independently. At the Trust we run a day centre provision, offering services to support our clients with their health & wellbeing, alongside providing essentials such as hot meals, clothing, shower facilities, access to phone/internet connections etc. We manage 7 training houses around King’s Lynn – where clients are able to stay up to 2 years whilst being supported during their pathway to independence. Over the past 2 years during the pandemic, we have found that our clients have struggled with isolation and their well-being has been affected by this – many of our clients have found a passion and focus around fitness to tackle this and thrown themselves into meaningful activities; such as rambling and the use of our on-site gym. The opportunity to participate in the 2022 Swimarathon challenge will help our clients to continue their fitness journeys, alongside the service provisions within the health and wellbeing centre. Any support you are able to provide is greatly appreciated and will go to some great causes!
