Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Alzheimer's Challenge page!
My chosen charity is Alzheimer’s Research. Being a geneticist I believe in scientific research and the potential benefits leading on from findings. I hope one day there will be a prevention/cure for Alzheimer’s and dementia, but the world-class research must be maintained for this to happen.
Many of you may know I have always lived with my grandmother. She’s the best thing since sliced bread! She has given me countless hilarious stories and memories I re-live with my family and friends. They start from her trying to crawl up the stairs backwards for no apparent reason, my sister and I still cackle about this to the day, to me trying to hunt for her needle (insulin) she had dropped on the floor for 20 minutes, to find it was stuck in her foot and she had no idea.
Nan is in the early stages of dementia and simple things are getting more difficult. I consider myself a part time detective, sometimes trying to find out what she wants from the shops is like trying to paint a picture with no brush, and sometimes no paint either. Wheres the canvas??? No idea!
I am optimistic for the future of Alzheimer’s Research. I’m aware it takes decades for research to turn into benefit. Maybe in the future the working being done now through donation will give people a few more good years with the one they love .
Uurrrghhhhh …..skydiving. I am absolutely terrified of heights, even more so than spiders. 10,000 ft...ooowww lorddddd 10,000 ft!!!! It took me half an hour to jump of a 6 ft ledge into a pool on holiday! I will be screaming for my life I promise you that. I will get a video of the even for everyone to laugh at my expence, but mainly to advertise charity work that can be done. Just planning this even scares me, it makes me debate whether to make a will or not! You can imagine the thoughts running through my head. But I thought that it’s a good way to raise money, I could have done a bike ride or a run, but that doesn’t feel like a challenge to me.
I hoped the Idea of putting myself through mental and physical agony for a great cause would not only encourage people to donate but to also spark some inspiration for others to do the same :D
Please donation what you can for a cause that worthy, thank you :D
