Story
After my wife Sarah gave birth at 25 weeks gestation to our beautiful baby girl Eva Rae, Eva was transferred to Birmingham Womens Hospital Neonatal Unit. I was amazed at the great work that they do there and at how tentative all the staff were towards all the poorly tiny babies in the unit, one nurse in particular "Libby" who personally looked after Eva took a photo of her and hand made a frame to give to us. What shocked me though was at one specific moment that I was sitting alongside Eva's incubator two nurses were arguing at who needed a fluorescent lamp the most, now a fluorescent lamp is needed to treat babies with jaundice and only cost a couple of hundred pounds but the neonatal unit depend on donations to supply extra equipment like this. This and the care and support shown to our little girl, us as a family during her time in the neonatal unit as well as the compassion, support and follow up care given after Eva lost her brave fight aged just 2 days has inspired me to do something to help raise money for the neonatal unit as a thank you. I decided the ToughGuy challenge would represent the tough challenges each and every tiny baby face every day in the neonatal unit. I have managed to convince three work friends from Timken Aerospace (Lee Evans, Kevin Clifford and Yuan Jervis) and Sarah's uncle "Hugh Nelson" to compete and help raise money for this great cause. To see the torture we will be putting ourselves through go to www.toughguy.co.uk or look at the many video clips on youtube.
