Story
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Virgin Money London Marathon 2014 in aid of the Leeds branch of Samaritans.
I chose to run for this charity because of the amazing voluntary work they do running a 24/7, confidential, non-judgmental helpline for people feeling suicidal, distressed or in crisis.
They are not Government funded, and rely totally on donations from the public to keep their services going.
Every day, around 16 people decide to end their own life across the United Kingdom. Samaritans can help people before it's too late.
People talk to Samaritans anytime they like, in their own way, and off the record - about whatever’s getting to them. They don't have to be suicidal.
£3.83 - Could answer one call for help.
£10.00 - Could keep one of their branches open for two hours.
£20.00 - Could help pay for one volunteer’s call training.
£30.00 - Could run the UK Samaritans phone service for 20 minutes.
£40.00 - Could answer the phone to 10 people who have nowhere else to turn.
Any help you can give, no matter how small you may think it is, will be greatly appreciated by myself and Samaritans - your donation will help give me that extra boost I need to keep plodding round the streets of London and reach that finish line!
So far in my short running 'career', I have completed the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10k, the BUPA Great Yorkshire Run 10k in Sheffield, the Perkins Great Eastern Run (half marathon!) in Peterborough, and the After Adoption Regents Park 10k in London.
The Virgin Money London Marathon will be my first marathon!!
Before the big one in London, I have the ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon in February, where I'll be following the tyre tracks of the British Superbikes and Touring Cars round the famous circuit, albeit quite a bit slower!
I also have the Mizuno Reading Half Marathon in March, so as you can imagine I am currently training as much as I can!!
Thanks for reading this, and thank you in anticipation of any help you are able to give, and for all your support!
Jay :)
