Jason Clifton Story

On December 22nd 2021 having had some not so good news as I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cancer in my throat which was a huge blow to me and my system and it hit me hard as I have a young family and it was scary times for me on how I was going to explain to my family about my diagnosis.  On the 28th of December. I broke the news to my children and this was difficult for me, but they needed to know, as I was not going to be able to return to my work in January as I was to under go 30 rounds of radiotherapy and 2 lots of chemotherapy and this would be over 3 months.

I also had further bad news between my diagnosis and having my treatment as I lost my Dad on the 28th December which was a huge blow to me and my system and it did not stop there as we lost a further 3 members this was including my Dads, brother.

I was finding it so hard, but I had support from my family and friends and neighbours and also from The Head and Neck Cancer Department in Carmarthen Glangwili.   They were so professional in helping me in all ways possible, also HR Staff from Alun Griffiths were I work would check in on me from week to week to see if there is anything I needed or if they could help in any way, which was amazing.

I  then went on to have my treatment on the 19th of January 2022 and this was my first lot of radiotherapy and chemotherapy which was again scary for me as I did not have a clue how I was going to react and I must say that the staff at Singleton radiotherapy were so professional and looked after me and made me feel I was in safe hands.  My chemotherapy was the same and also my oncologist doctor was amazing.

When I arrived home I was all good, but found it very hard as I could not go out as the weather was raining and cold and windy every day and also due to covid being at a high levelsand me being  classed as a vulnerable person so I had to keep myself safe. But to go from working with people every day in your life to not going anywhere and being stuck at home was so hard for me and just going to have my treatments every day was the highlight of my day because I was getting out of the house.  I would also do Meditation on a daily basis and read positive books and listen to audible books  and found that this helped me lots and I can recommend some amazing books and pod casts and Audible’s that helped me through these tough times in my life see the list below of some of the books I was reading and listening to on Audible.

I took up running after my treatments had finished and getting out in nature a lot more which has helped me massively and in a positive way also I was doing Cold water therapy which has also been amazing and going to the sea for morning and evening swims.

I would like to finish off with my thanks to all who were with me on my journey through these tough times so… Thank you to my Wife and my daughter and my 2 sons and my Future son in Law for his support also my Mum and brothers and to all my neighbours and friends  and work colleagues for the phone calls.  Thank you to Carmarthen Head and Neck Cancer team and Singleton Radiotherapy and Chemotherapyand my Specialist Oncologist doctor who was amazing and helped me so thank you for all your help and supporting me.

I would like to say that I am now wanting to give back to Head and Neck Cancer Department Carmarthen and Radiotherapy Singleton Swansea. I have decided to run 200Km in the month of August 2022 to help others and I am doing this in different locations and will be posting it on my Face book page also you can follow me on Strava and if you would like to join as anyone is welcome you can cycle walk or drive along 😊 see below my JustGiving pages.
