Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. My name is Jannik Schaefer, I am 17 years old and still at school.

I started thinking about raising money for Marie Curie a few months ago and wanted to contribute to the care of cancer patients. In order to raise money, I am planning on running from the most north point of Wales, along the countryside and through the Brecon Beacons to Penarth. Overall it is about 300km and I am planning to do it in 5 days.

When my grandmother died 10 years ago of breast cancer, I was devastated. She was not just a grandmother, she loved my brother and me as if we were the only ones who mattered. And she made the best soup I have ever eaten! I was only 7 when she died but I was aware of what was going on. Then, 5 years ago, my father committed suicide; I still haven't fully come to terms with that. 

Now, when I think back, I can image how difficult it must have been for my parents to care for my sick grandmother. I always remember how we painted pictures for her...it was a nice but also a very sad time. Now, that I am old enough, I want to do something about cancer care because I want every cancer patient to be cared for in the way my grandmother was. Above all, I know that my father would have supported it and it is something I want to do for him.

My second reason for doing a fund-raising event for Marie Curie is that I know the money raised will be used effectively. I am working at the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth as a volunteer so I can say for sure that it's definitely worth doing.
