Story
Jan had her first stroke on 29th October 2017. She was very unwell at the time spending 6 months in hospital and rehab, including time in intensive care following neurosurgery. Her initial prognosis was poor, but thankfully she survived. She had to relearn all basic tasks including eating, talking and walking. She exceeded all expectations and 4.5 years on continued to improve at home and inspire us all, doing so with laughter, smiles and determination.
On 9th May 2022 Jan suffered another severe stroke, affecting the opposite side of her brain. Despite excellent care at New Cross Hospital, she sadly passed away peacefully on 21st May 2022.
As a family, we ask rather than giving flowers at her funeral, that instead donations are given to the Stroke Association in memory of Jan.
A stroke strikes every 5 minutes in the UK irrespective of age or circumstance. Funding is much needed to raise awareness of stroke and to further research the causes and potential options for both preventing and treating the effects of stroke. ‘Research means hope for a better recovery. More independence. A life. A future’. We want stroke survivors and their families to live fuller, happier lives
Jan was always so positive throughout her recovery. The kind and caring person that she was would want to use her experience to help others.
