I'm taking part in the Great North Run to raise money for Allergy UK. This is a charity that means a great deal to my family as my three year old daughter suffers from multiple allergies. For the first six months of her life she was in and out of hospital and even now her allergies are better controlled she still has to have lots of medication, creams and hospital appointments.

Finding out your child has allergies is a very scary time. Allergy UK were there for our family at our worst moments. They have a telephone helpline and a website with lots of useful information. They made an awful time that little bit easier and continue to be a great support today.

The furthest I have ever run before is 10k so a half marathon will be quite a challenge. I'm determined to do it though to say thank you and give something back to a charity that means so much.
