I can't help but smile when I see pictures of Bruce - that amazing smile of his & the twinkle in those eyes! But how cruel life can be . . .

He fought long & hard & we were all right there with him all the way. Unfortunately time was not on our side. The most amazing man - so brave, so passionate & so full of life lost his courageous battle with cancer on Monday 12th April at 6:20am. The most wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle & friend . . . it is just so unreal, so unfair, so wrong. So wrong that a man who was looking forward to being the most amazing Dad, should be robbed of the opportunity of seeing his beautiful daughter grow up & so unfair that Zoe will grow up without knowing her wonderful father for herself.

Question: So what exactly are we planning to do?

Answer: Run the Edinburgh Marathon on 23rd May 2010 in memory of Bruce & raise funds for Marie Curie.

The ‘Hairy Haggis’ Team Relay is part of the Edinburgh Marathon & was introduced to give runners of all abilities the chance to experience marathon fever without having to run the 26.2 miles individually. Teams of four run the marathon, splitting the distance between them with legs between five and eight miles. We are entering two teams for this event.

Our hope is to raise as much money as we can for the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh where Bruce spent just over a week back in February. Marie Curie Cancer Care services are completely free to patients & their families & they rely on the generosity of the public for their funding. It costs £408 to care for a patient in the Hospice for just one day, so our hope is to raise as much as we can so that others may benefit from the expert care provided there during their time of need. Marie Curie not only took care of Bruce as a patient at the Edinburgh Hospice, but also provided the Nurses who came to treat him at the weekends. During the last three nights of Bruce's life, we also had a Marie Curie Nurse (Margaret) at the house with us throughout the night - I cannot tell you what a comfort that was to have someone there who knew exactly what we were going through. This is our way of giving a little something back to some of the people who have supported us on our journey. Please help us to help them help others!
