Story
On April 26th this year I will be walking the Ridgeway
National Trail from Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. The Trail is approximately 87 miles in length however, I will be walking further as there is no accommodation on the trail and must leave the Ridgeway to get to the organised accommodation. I will be undertaking this challenge in memory of my close friend, Lynne King, who passed away from cancer in April last year. I will also be raising money for the Weldmar Hospice Care which includes the Joseph Weld Hospice where
Lynne spent her last days. Lynne’s stay in the Joseph Weld hospice was short, but the care and attention given to Lynne was superb ensuring as much as possible she was comfortable and pain free. Care and support were also given to those closest to Lynne. What most people don’t realise is that hospices across the country rely on charitable donations and fundraising events.. The Weldmar Hospice care, the Joseph Weld Hospice is part of this, receives 25% of its funding from the NHS (£2million) which means it needs to raise £6 million per annum from other sources - charitable donations, fundraising etc. Those of you who knew Lynne know the history and grief Lynne suffered due to this horrible disease. Compared to the challenges Lynne encountered this is quite a minor challenge. However, for me the challenge will be walking long distances on consecutive days hoping my knees (both knee joints are artificial) will cope and I’ll manage to succeed.
I am hoping to raise £500 which will pay for 1 day’s care for an inpatient requiring specialist medical and palliative care. (1day costs approx.
£495).
Please support me if you can – every £1 will help provide
care for someone’s loved one.
Thanks Jan
