Story
Dear all
As I am reaching a milestone birthday this year, I’ve decided I would love to fulfil one of my biggest dreams of Wing Walking and in so doing also raise money for the local charity ‘Bromley, Lewisham & Greenwich Mind’ who supported both dad and myself when he was suffering with dementia.
Within my local area they provide:
Support Centres where dementia sufferers can enjoy spending the day engaging in activities and social groups
Home sitting service to support dementia sufferers in their own home and give their family & friends some time away from caring
Advice and support for carers so family and friends can learn about dementia, effective communication and looking after themselves
Exercise and wellbeing cafes for people with dementia and their carers.
We certainly made good use of the first 3 options especially the home sitting service but dad was not very keen on the exercise class so we only tried that once.
I would be most grateful for any donation (however small) towards this wonderful local charity.
Thank you
Jane x
UPDATE
Well it was a lovely sunny and I was really looking forward to my wing walk and flying like a bird over the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside... well maybe a little apprehensive too.
However, I hadn't taken into account the wind speed and as soon as we got going I realised that I'm not as aerodynamic as a bird (ha ha) and being jolted and buffeted by the 120mph winds left me feeling rather battered & bruised and quite nauseous by the end.. not the most comfortable experience.
On the positive side, the scenery was beautiful and glad I did it for the charity but maybe something a little gentler next time ;o)
Thanks so much everyone for sponsoring me... thanks to you I exceeded my target and attached are a few photos (shown below) to prove I did it. Some are stills from the video taken from the wing of the plane so not the most flattering angle but managed to smile throughout and some were taken from the ground.
Love Jane xx
