Story

2018 ‘Bridge with Afternoon Tea’

Thank you for reading my Just Giving page.

In August 2017 my dear little great niece, Georgie, started school. She is a happy fun loving little girl who is very keen to learn and to take part in as many activities at school as she can.

Georgie is the only child in Scotland diagnosed with the Muscular Dystrophy type LMNA CMD. There are a few cases in England and around one hundred diagnosed in the rest of the world. This is why I feel it is so important to support ‘Georgie’s Genes’ by raising funds to support research and raise awareness of this as yet incurable condition.

Michael and Lindsey, Georgie’s parents, have worked hard to ascertain that all funds raised on behalf of Georgie’s Genes will go directly to fund research into L-CMD which is caused by a mutation in the Lamin A/C gene. This leads to progressive muscle weakness of the skeletal, respiratory and heart muscles.

There is currently no research into Georgie’s type of muscular dystrophy being conducted in the UK, and until now there has been no easy way to contribute the funds raised to the research projects overseas.

In December Michael and Lindsey commented, "We are delighted that Muscular Dystrophy UK has just announced a funding partnership with US based charity Cure CMD. This is a very exciting advancement for us and the rest of the LMNA-CMD community."

You can support this worthwhile cause by coming to play Bridge, eat a delicious afternoon tea, take part in a raffle (last year’s raffle was said to be the best in Edinburgh) and have the opportunity to win a beautiful antique reproduction doll which belonged to Georgie’s Great Grandmother. If you cannot come to the event, you may wish to make a donation via this
Just Giving page.
