We provide hospice care in Worcestershire to give people the best quality of life

Story

St. Richard’s Hospice in Worcester provide an amazing service
with professionalism, care and empathy for those in most need at the most difficult times.

Let me introduce you to ex Police Inspector Jacky Smith – a former
colleague, an old and trusted friend and a true inspiration.

She has been living with Motor Neuron Disease for the last 11
years. But let me be clear - this does not define her.

Over the course of her illness Jacky has periodically spent time at St. Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.  Unfortunately, last year she spent three lengthy spells there but thanks to the dedicated team and specialised symptom control treatments which have been so effective she is now back in her own home.

Jacky and other friends have vowed to raise the amazing sum of £20,000 in 2020 to support the Hospice and contribute to the incredible work that it does day in and day out.

Some of these friends are walking the Great Wall of China in
November of this year. (Latest news is that it is OPEN!)

Jacky is well enough to be actively helping/organising. She is busily producing and selling some great artwork and stationery, hosting events, gaining sponsorship and most importantly -encouraging us all to get fit enough to complete our challenges and smash the target!! No mean feat in my case!

My contribution to Jacky’s ambitious target is that I am going to run a  Half Marathon. This was originally going to be  on 26th April 2020 at Stratford but due to the corona virus this event has now been CANCELLED.

The work of the Hospice and many others around the country though goes on, but now against a backdrop of falling financial contributions. If we can allow the Hospices to continue to do what they do so fantastically well then we can do just a little more protect our brilliant NHS and save lives.

So I am going to run a lonely marathon - all on my own on Easter Saturday 11th April 2020. I am looking to identify a route near to home where the lanes are rural, quiet and safe and social distancing will not be an issue.

I am no Paula Radcliffe but having spent since Christmas battling storms, dodging potholes and running in the dark so no one feels the need to call an ambulance for that “poor old lady!” I am quietly confident of crossing the finish line some time before Easter Sunday!

I know that sometimes it feels that everyone is after your hard-earned
money but any support you can give will be hugely appreciated and help this wonderful charity to continue with their invaluable work.

PLEASE PLEASE DONATE - THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
