Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK. Thanks to our support the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. Every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
I am doing this ride in memory of my much loved and missed husband. Dave suffered from acute endocarditis in 1989 which damaged his aortic valve, pacing system and heart wall. Emergency surgery was followed by 6 weeks in a critical condition on antibiotics before further surgery and treatment resulted in a slow recovery. He then suffered another heart infection in 1993 when Debbie was 2 and I was pregnant with Alex. This meant further treatment and extensive surgery at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Its only due to advances in treatment and the skills/knowledge of the cardiologist and surgeons at those times that he survived and we had a further 10 good years together with our children.
Sadly he developed further problems in late 2004 and despite surgery and ongoing treatment he died in Aug 2005.
The day of this cycle ride would have been our 40th wedding anniversary!
