Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am going to Holland in September to raise money for the Sam Beare Hospice, Weybridge, in memory of my Partner, and greatest friend, Bob.  I will be cycling around 235 miles in total, over six days.  Holland is just perfect for cycling, I know the country well and have friends there.  Being largely flat is quite helpful too!

Although Bob and I had very different interests, (he was a brilliant horseman, having served with The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, and the Metropolitan Police Mounted Branch, my hobbies were music, cycling and sailing) we enjoyed sharing those interests.  I miss his very unique, quiet input and support - particularly when bits of my dinghy break!  He was always there for me.

It was my very great privelige to be there for him particularly in 2008 when Bob was battling Cancer.  He put up a brave and uncomplaining fight, but eventually we were struggling to cope at home.  Through the MacMillan team, Sam Beare Hospice then enfolded us with their incredible care and professional support structure.  Bob died there with dignity, with his brother and myself at his side on 9th July 2008. This memory is the reason for my cycle ride, and I have the hope that in doing it I will, in some small way, help keep the Doors open for others.

I cannot end this without giving a massive "Thank you" to my Daughter Anne, and Bob's brother, John, for their continuing and unstinting support; to my friends for their amazing patience; and to my work colleagues whose own inimitable variety of humour and fun keeps me smiling.  There has even been support from folk I barely know, friends of my Daughter.  I would never have got this far without you all.
