Story

Hello there

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page and for taking the time to find out why I'm doing this. I'm running the Marathon in memory of a very dear colleague.

I don't have the words to pay tribute to Emily, or to explain how wonderful it was to have known her. As a colleague Emily was always an inspiration to me, as I know she was to a great many others. A naturally gifted and tirelessly dedicated Mental Health Social Worker; she applied meticulous levels of care, thoughtfulness and her unique sensitivity to everything she did, and was always striving to do the very best she could for the individuals under her care. But Emily's real gift to us, was the person she was; and it was this that shone through in all that she did, and this that touched all our lives so indelibly.

Emily passed away in her sleep last April due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes. One of her great ambitions was to run the London Marathon herself; and having applied each year through the ballot process, she had finally been rewarded with her own place and was due to run the marathon herself this year – a far, far greater challenge for someone with Type 1 Diabetes, but that was Emily. And so now a team of fifteen of us will take on this challenge for her and run in her place; hoping we can do her justice by running in memory of her and in tribute. The team is made up of family, friends and colleagues, and is very much inspired by the courage of Emily's sister Alison (www.justgiving.com/aliandiain) and also of Emily's boyfriend Adam (www.justgiving.com/Adam-Caines). You can find out more at www.teamemandme.org. Diabetes UK was a cause close to Emily's heart and one she continually supported. We hope to raise over £30 000 pounds in her memory. Please visit www.diabetes.org.uk to see how this money will be used to help others with the condition and hopefully, ultimately, to find a cure.

I don't have the words to pay tribute to Emily or to even begin to describe how much she is missed, which in part is why I'm doing this. She will always be loved and forever remembered by those of us so fortunate to have known her. This seems the very least we can do to remember and pay tribute to such an inspirational and uniquely wonderful individual, who graced our lives, and who, throughout her own, gave so much of herself to others.

All donations, no matter their size, are hugely valued and mean a great deal to Emily's family and friends.

Our sincere thanks and very best wishes.

Jamie.
