24 Hour Dance Marathon in aid of our Theatre Workers

24 Hour Dance Marathon · 3 July 2020
My name is James Bamford, I am 16, and am an aspiring performer in training from Somerset. Theatre in all its forms has adopted the backbone of my life and has inspired me to pursue a career in the theatre industry in the future. I have been fortunate enough to previously and continue to be taught by superb teachers, choreographers and directors whom are responsible for our country's incredible talent in theatre and for bringing joy, escapism and entertainment to so many people. Theatre has taught me kindness, love, passion and truth and I will forever be in debt to this beautiful industry.
Covid-19 has forced theatre in our country to come to a sudden and heartbreaking stop with many theatres and production companies facing permanent closure if nothing is done to support them. As well as this, the individual performers, creatives, teachers, backstage crews and front of house staff have had their livelihoods swept from underneath their feet. With no support from the government being provided for the theatre industry and it now appearing that theatres will remain closed until at least the beginning of 2021, I feel it only right that I try to do my bit for those in theatre, as they have done some much for me.
I will be dancing non-stop for 24 hours in aid of Acting for Others and will be live-streaming the event on Facebook.
For every successful theatre worker, there are hundreds of actors, dancers, musicians, lighting technicians, wardrobe staff, front of house, backstage workers who are not so fortunate. Acting for Others is here to provide not only financial but emotional support to all theatre workers in times of need through the 14 member charities. At this difficult time for all, the theatre industry needs your support more than ever. With the closure of theatre, tens of thousands of theatre workers across the UK are facing unemployment and financial uncertainty for a number of months. We thank you all for supporting the theatre community at this time.
