Story
Thanks for visiting my page.
Many of you are probably wondering why I am running the London Marathon, and more weirdly, why am I running for Pancreatic Cancer UK?
I Applied to enter the London marathon after a minute of madness and managed to get accepted. As you know gaining a coveted London Marathon place is a great feat, therefore I’ve decided to race for a charity which I can connect with the most.
John Bond, Natalie’s dad, was a great friend who I got extremely close to over the short 3 years of knowing him.
John was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in August of 2007 and died on September 23 at home with myself and his family at his bedside. It was a short battle with cancer but he remained strong and positive throughout.
After witnessing first-hand the real effects of Pancreatic Cancer, I decided to dedicate my gruelling 26 miles to John – who would have encouraged me all the way - and help raise money for the Charity so they can help search for a cure for this truly terrible disease.
Facts about Pancreatic Cancer:
- Pancreatic cancer is one of the few cancers for which survival has not improved substantially over nearly 40 years.
- The average life expectancy after diagnosis with metastatic disease is just three to six months.
- Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers. 94% of pancreatic cancer patients will die within five years of diagnosis – only 6% will survive more than five years. 74% of patients die within the first year of diagnosis.
- Pancreatic cancer is a leading cause of cancer death largely because there are no detection tools to diagnose the disease in its early stages when surgical removal of the tumour is still possible
Please help me raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK to help conduct more research into this disease as Cancer doesn’t care about age, background or future.
I know that I have left this extremely late but EVERY single penny counts. I appreciate anything that you are able to give to this amazing charity.
I WONT LET YOU DOWN!!
