Story
This page has been created in memory of our beloved mum/mother in law Tracey who sadly passed away August 2021.
Below is the story of her battle and why as a family we have chosen to support this charity and do this event.
Almost a year ago on the 22nd February 2021 our amazing Mum sat alone in A&E due to the pandemic being told she had Leukaemia.
After a whirlwind few days, lots of tests, many phone calls and 3 hospitals later, mum arrived at UCLH to start her treatment for AML.
Mum always felt safe there and constantly praised the care she received. Her daughter Casey also worked at the hospital which meant she wasn’t always on her own and always joked that she was a VIP Patient.
Mums’ treatment involved 4 cycles of Chemotherapy. Each one meant spending 4 weeks in hospital with only 2 weeks in between at home. None of this stopped mum staying positive, strong and fighting hard, always reassuring us that she was ok and not to worry.
After smashing the first three cycles unfortunately she was hit with a massive curve ball at the start of the fourth cycle........COVID.
Again, this didn’t stop mum remaining positive, she carried on fighting. Doctors commented saying 'that’s one strong woman'. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of having AML and COVID together complications occurred that no one was able to see coming.
On the 5th August 2021our lives changed forever and we had to say goodbye to our beautiful mum.
In memory of Mum her three children and a group of close friends and family members will be taking part in the 15K Tough Mudder event on 21st May 2022. This is to raise money for Macmillan. Mum had always supported charities before falling ill which included Macmillan. They helped Mum greatly from diagnosis and throughout her treatment. This is our way of being able to give something back, to say thank you and to make mum proud like she always made us feel about her during her hard short fight.
Thank you for listening to our story. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
